
Winter Maintenance – Responsible Salt Management
CCI Grand River Chapter in partnership with The City of Guelph, Regional Municipality of Waterloo and Wellington County municipalities staff are pleased to present our Responsible Salt Management webinar on October 2, 2024. This free webinar is open to all members but will be geared toward Property Managers/Boards of Directors.
The presentation will provide attendees with practical winter maintenance management strategies, tools and resources to improve salt management practices on the properties that they are responsible for. The presentation will also provide a background of how salt management fits into the Sourcewater Protection Program under the Clean Water Act, highlight what each municipality is doing to reduce salt usage and outline a number of initiatives that are being implemented.

Abigail Shingler
Abigail is a Source Protection Program Coordinator with the Region of Waterloo. Abigail works with property owners to develop strategies to protect our community’s drinking water sources from pollutants. This work includes Source Protection education and outreach with property owners, consultants, developers, and community members. Abigail has a Master of Science and a Bachelor’s of Environmental Studies in Geography and Environmental Management from the University of Waterloo.
Peter Rider
Peter is a Risk Management official with the City of Guelph. Peter manages the Sourcewater Protection Program at the City and develops Risk Management Plans for businesses and industries. He has 39 years of environmental experience in the private and public sector. He also leads the Salt Management Action Plan initiative at the City, which is focused on responsible salt management. Peter has an Honours Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of Waterloo.
Danielle Fisher
Danielle Fisher is Source Protection Coordinator with Wellington Source Water Protection, a municipal shared service unit that implements the Clean Water Act for the eight municipalities within Wellington County. In this role, Danielle works with property managers/ owners and contractors to develop winter maintenance measures and plans in areas that are close to municipal wells. Danielle is also the lead on education and outreach initiatives within Wellington County related to winter maintenance and source water protection. Danielle holds an Honours Bachelor of Science in Biology from Wilfrid Laurier University.
